HiWAAY Introduces Email Virus Filtering

It is estimated that computer viruses cost businesses $55 billion in 2003, with most viruses transmitted through email. HiWAAY Internet Services now offers optional email virus filtering services to all HiWAAY customers and to any other email users who own a domain name.

The Brightmail Anti-Virus technology, powered by Symantec®, is the newest addition to Brightmail spam filtering for customers who receive their email "@hiwaay.net."

"HiWAAY has been providing Brightmail®spam filtering as a free service to HiWAAY customers for four years," said Redge Swing, HiWAAY's general manager. "We are excited to add virus filtering to our list of free services for our customers using '@hiwaay.net' email."

AnteSpam Virus Filtering (@ your domain)

AnteSpam virus filtering is an optional service for individuals and businesses that receive email at their own domain, such as "abccompany.com." Virus filtering is a new optional feature of AnteSpam junk email filtering, introduced by HiWAAY last year.

AnteSpam virus filtering works by sending a user's email directly to the AnteSpam servers, where viruses are filtered before ever reaching the customer's server.

This reduces the load on the customer's server and frees up the Internet connection for legitimate business. It works through a simple DNS (Domain Name Services) change performed by the administrator of the domain, thus eliminating the need to install software.

"AnteSpam virus filtering is a low-cost and little-effort solution since no additional software or hardware must be purchased by the customer," explained Ann Yelle, director of marketing for HiWAAY. "Preventing viruses from reaching your network can save your business countless dollars and hours."
